SOFIA ALMEIDA

Singer, Composer, Educator 

Biography

Sofia Almeida is a Portuguese singer, composer, and rising voice in the Global Jazz Music scene, from Madeira, Portugal. Currently completing her Bachelor of Music in Performance at Berklee College of Music, she is part of the undergraduate program at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and the Berklee Jazz and Gender Justice Institute. She has studied under the mentorship of jazz legends Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Joe Lovano, Patricia Zarate, and others.

As an ambassador of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, Sofia has received their support for her studies, along with multiple merit-based awards at Berklee.

 

In 2021, she had the privilege of performing alongside the GRAMMY Award-winning Generation Gap Jazz Orchestra, led by Steven Feifke and Bijon Watson, at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston. During her time at Berklee, Sofia participated in large-scale productions, performing in ensembles with jazz greats such as Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, and Tigran Hamasyan.
